Materials for One Tape Deck Block:

From dark red print, cut:

  • 2 — 1-1/2×2-3/4″ rectangles
  • 2 — 1-1/4×3-3/4″ rectangles
  • 2 — 1×9″ strips

From text print, cut:

  • 1 — 1-1/2×7-1/2″ strip

From yellow print, cut:

  • 1 — 3/4×7-1/2″ strip

From white print, cut:

From gray print, cut:

From teal print, cut:

  • 1 — 1-1/2×2-1/2″ rectangle

From light red print, cut:

  • 1 — 1-1/2×6″ strip

Assemble One Tape Deck Block:

1. Sew together white, gray, and teal pieces. Press seams toward teal print.

2. Sew together text, yellow, and pieced strip from Step 1. Press seams away from pieced strip.

3. Add dark red print 1-1/4×3-3/4″ rectangles to sides of Step 2 unit. Press seams toward dark red print.

4. Add dark red print 1×9″ strips to top and bottom of Step 3 unit. Press seams toward dark red print.

5. Using the 60-degree angle line on your ruler, cut both ends of the light red print strip.

6. Using the 60-degree angle line on your ruler, cut one side of each dark red 1-1/2×2-3/4″ rectangle as shown.

7. Sew the dark and light red pieces together, slightly offsetting the angle sides as shown. (If you don’t offset the angles, the pieces won’t line up correctly after sewing with the 1/4″ seam.) Press seams toward dark red print.

8. Sew the pieced strip from Step 7 to the bottom of Step 4 unit to complete one Tape Deck block. Press seams toward dark red print. The block should be 5×9″ including seam allowances.

Make as many blocks as you’d like in the colors of your choice! In the picture at the top, I sewed three blocks together with 2″-wide sashing strips and borders for a vertical wall hanging. I finished it with zigzag machine-quilting to mimic the chevron sashing print.

Thanks for joining me for “happy hour,”
