Quilt Retreat 2017: Wrap-Up

Two weeks ago I went to a weekend quilt retreat with my co-workers at Hen & Chicks Studio in Conrad, Iowa. This is the second year we’ve visited Heidi’s beautiful quilt store and retreat center, and we always have a blast.

The retreat center is above the quilt store (perfect for shopping during your stay!). There are beds, two bathrooms, a fully-stocked kitchen complete with a dishwasher and coffee maker, and plenty of work space. We all set up shop and started sewing!

Heidi even set fresh flowers at every table. And look at those curtains made from fabric strips! That attention to details is what really makes the retreat feel like a special occasion. As part of our retreat package, Heidi even supplied the meals, so we only had to worry about sewing.

The weather was beautiful (in the 70s) while we were there, so we made sure to take plenty of walks and stretch breaks. This also let us explore this quaint town!

We, of course, did some shopping, too! Hen & Chicks Studio has an eclectic mix of fabrics. There is everything from hand-dyed wools to modern prints and solids.

The store even sells some scrap booking supplies, local wine and candles, and other fun knick knacks. And the building is historic and has a lot of character.

I started sewing my The Splendid Sampler blocks and finished the last of the 100! Woo! Then, I moved on to my 182 Day Solstice Challenge.

Then I caught up on my Aurifil blocks. Lots of pretty blues! I finished all this on Day 1 (and stayed up much later than usual).

On Day 2, I made lots of progress on my String Theory quilt along quilt. I spent the whole day chain piecing and went home refreshed and inspired!

If you ever get a chance to visit Hen & Chicks Studio, I highly recommend it! I’m already plotting the next trip!

Thanks for joining me for “happy hour,”
