February UFO Challenge Quilt

Are you doing the American Patchwork & Quilting UFO Challenge? (If not, you should! Details are here.) The UFO I worked on this month was my String Theory quilt.

String Theory is a quilt by Sharon Tucker that appeared the April 2017 issue of American Patchwork & Quilting.  (You can buy the pattern here.) This wasn’t technically a UFO, but I knew I wanted to finish this project this year, so I put it on my list to make sure it got done.

I made this quilt a Christmas quilt (hey, it never hurts to make one early!). I string-pieced both classic Christmas colors mixed with teals and some fun metallics. I love how scrappy look, even though I used mostly the Christmas Glitz collection by Winthur Sempliner for Connecting Threads.

I pieced the back together from random Christmas yardage and bound it with a metallic cream. I only did quilting in the solid strips (not the pieced ones). After I washed the quilt, I had such a cozy and crinkly look — something I love to curl up under!

Although this was my February UFO, I finished it halfway into March. February was a short month, so I’m blaming it on that!

Although I’m not happy about it, we got some snow over the weekend. It was meant to be, though, since a Christmas quilt should have its photo taken in the snow! (But I hope this is the last we get for awhile!)
Hope you can join the UFO Challenge with me! I can’t always promise I’ll finish a UFO quilt by the end of the month, but I sure feel motivated!

Thanks for joining my for “happy hour,”

I’d love for you to follow me on Instagram @lindsmayland to connect more!
