Review: Clearly Perfect Slotted Trimmers

I was so excited to try out the Clearly Perfect Slotted Rulers from Kari Carr of New Leaf Stitches!

For $31.95 you get two acrylic rulers that trim 11 sizes of triangle-squares from 1-1/2″ to 6 -1/2″. One trimmer does full-inch sizes and one does half-inch sizes.

I love the versatility of triangle-squares and I make A LOT of them, but trimming them is so time-consuming. After a few practice rounds with the Slotted Trimmer tools, I think this will instantly become a favorite for me!

Here’s how it works: you place the dashed line of the ruler on the seam line of your unopened triangle-square (the gray area is your 1/4″ seam allowance). I was making 3-1/2″ finished triangle-squares in my example.

Using a rotary cutter, trim the triangle-square on both sides. Then (and this is my fave part!), use your rotary cutter to cut in the side slots to cut off the dog ears!

When you press your triangle-square open, you have one that’s the perfect size and no dog ears to worry about! The lines on the rulers are clear and make it easy to trim quickly.

Another amazing use for this ruler is for trimming hourglass blocks. You can line up the center line on the ruler with the seam of the block, then trim.

It makes a perfect hourglass unit with no dog ears! Using that center line on the ruler would also be a great way to fussy-cut triangles!

You can also cut really fast triangle-squares using the tube method. You sew two fabric strips together right sides together on both long edges, then use the ruler to cut triangle-squares.

I would highly recommend the Clearly Perfect Slotted Trimmers! The markings on the ruler are clear, the tool is easy to understand, and the rotary cutter slides easily along the ruler and fits perfectly in the side slots. I think this will really change how I view trimming triangle-squares and will make sewing more enjoyable.

Thanks, New Leaf Stitches, for this tool! You can buy this tool from her website here.

Thanks for joining me for “happy hour,”

Lindsay
