A Birthday Project

Today I turn 29! With the big 3-0 looming closer every day, I wanted a special way to remember my 20s while also making each day count.

Life goes by so quickly, and I don’t want this to be another year that blurs into the last. I want to be grateful for each moment and see the happiness and magic that surrounds us.

A few months ago, Instagram was taken by storm by the #100hexies100Days2017 challenge started by Sew Foxy Mama. I loved the idea of doing something creative and small every day. And as someone who has never done English paper-piecing, I thought it was the perfect way to challenge myself to learn something new.

I bought the supplies I needed — a Sewline glue pen with refills and 1″ hexagons. (If you have other favorites, let me know in the comments. I’m a newbie!) I’ll be making one hexagon for each day of my year 29. Although I don’t have a final plan for the hexies, I decided to label the date wth pen on the hexagon back in case I wanted to arrange them by date in the end.

I want each hexagon to represent my day, so I have a fun record of the year. Today’s hexagon is a bright yellow (my favorite color) with a party banner — perfect for a birthday celebration! I hope this challenge helps me focus on special moments throughout the day and look at my fabric stash as a trove of possibility!

I’ll update my hexagon progress every week or two! And I’ll be using the hashtag #lindsayhexies29 on Instagram to share pictures.

Thanks for joining me for “happy hour,”
