A Birthday Project: Weeks 32-35

I’m 2/3 of the way done with my year of hexagons! In preparation for the final stretch, I’ve selected a pattern and have started piecing the background. I’ll spend the summer hand sewing the hexagons together. (More to be revealed soon!) As part of celebrating a year in my life, I’m making a hexagon to describe each day! (You can read more about this project here.)

Here’s a little description of what each hexagon means (start in the middle, move to the white and black hexagon and move clockwise):

Day 218: My peony bush has little balls just waiting to open! I’m traveling this week, so I hope it holds out until I’m home.

Day 219: Productive day at work crossing things off my list

Day 220: Packing my bags for Portland, Oregon, for Quilt Market. The hexagons that follow are some of the new fabric lines I found there!

Day 221: Mountain Meadow by Pippa Shaw for FIGO Fabrics

Day 222: Batik Blendors by Island Batik

Day 223: Marmalade Dreams by Valori Wells for Robert Kaufman Fabrics

Day 224: Looking Forward by Jen Kingwell for Moda Fabrics

Here’s a little description of what each hexagon means (start in the middle, move to the flower hexagon and move clockwise):

Day 225: Harriet’s Handwork by Betsy Chutchian for Moda Fabrics

Day 226: Gypsy by Jessica VanDenburgh for Windham Fabrics

Day 227: Cleaned out my fabric and got rid of a bunch that I would never use — I’m sure it went to a good home!

Day 228: Bought a saw (sometimes it’s the little things that make you feel grown up).

Day 229: We have company this weekend, so we cleaned until things shined!

Day 230: Dad is in town (and it’s very hot), so we’re celebrating with ice cream!

Day 231: We spent the day cleaning gutters and fixing things around the house. It’s great to have help from Dad!

Here’s a little description of what each hexagon means (start in the middle, move to the flower hexagon and move clockwise):

Day 232: Dad and I explored the city — drove all over visiting new places!

Day 233: Peonies in the yard are finally blooming!

Day 234: Feeling extraspecial and well rested after a long weekend.

Day 235: It’s a new pleasure of mine to watch the birds in the yard in the mornings.

Day 236: Our cat has a new sleeping spot and has never been happier!

Day 237: More planting of flowers today.

Day 238: Strawberry season! We’re putting strawberries on everything!

Here’s a little description of what each hexagon means (start in the middle, move to the bee hexagon and move clockwise):

Day 239: Warm day ended up with us sitting on lawn chairs in the backyard relaxing!

Day 240: Flowers appeared in the veggie garden — can’t wait for there to be produce! (Come on over, bees!)

Day 241: Primary Election Day in Iowa.

Day 242: Took the night to finally get a bunch of fabrics cut for a new quilt!

Day 243: Chaotic day with things all over the place.

Day 244: Sometimes you can’t beat the heat. We brought a fan outside so we could sweat a little less.

Day 245: Banana pancakes are our new favorite breakfast food!

I’ll update my hexagon progress every week or two! And I’ll be using the hashtag #lindsayhexies29 on Instagram to share pictures.

Thanks for joining me for “happy hour,”

Lindsay
