Moda Block Heads 2

If you know me, you know I LOVE quilt alongs! So when Moda announced Block Heads 2, I jumped right on the band wagon!

Read more about Block Heads 2 here.

The first block is by Lynne Hagmeier and called Stellar Star! I’m in love with this block, and it’s part of the reason I decided to join. I had the perfect fabric for it — Poppy Mae by Robin Pickens for Moda Fabrics.

After finishing the block, I realized that I still have three other quilt along projects on my UFO list. Did I really need another one? I waited for the next two blocks to come out and just didn’t have the strong love for them that I had for Block 1. So I decided just to finish this block as a mini and move on!

It was freeing to not be sucked into another big project that I wasn’t passionate about. Summer is for fast finishes and enjoying sewing!

I simply finished this block with green Aurifil thread using straight-line quilting, and black binding to really help the colors pop!

Have you ever abandoned a project? Did it feel guilty or freeing?

Thanks for joining me for “happy hour,”

Lindsay

  1. Last year I participated in my first mystery quilt along. I made all the blocks from my stash, so it wasn’t a big investment. Anyway, once the final setting was revealed, I had no desire to finish the quilt. I think I’ll donate the blocks to my mom’s quilt group and happily move on.

  2. What a lovely finish you made! I did a similar thing with a test block I made recently and ended up with a nice table topper. The block was 24”, and I added a couple borders. It was a nice practice for me, and love the useful result. One of the few things I have started that I finished! Starting is so much more fun!
