We’re a few weeks into Moda Bake Shop‘s summer quilt along! The quilt along features seven designers. Each round of the quilt has two options, so you can really customize it to fit your style. I’m using this project as an excuse to explore my creativity. (See more about my center block here.)
I chose Path A by Sharla Krenzel for the first round. I love plus-sign blocks! Since I’m shrinking this pattern in half, my plus-sign blocks finish at 1.25″ square. That’s tiny! Let’s be honest — there was no way I was going to accurately piece these tiny blocks without paper piecing them, so I took a more freeform approach. I cut all my pieces slightly larger, didn’t worry about getting the most perfect seam allowance, and trimmed the blocks down (sometimes at an angle) to get a wonky look. And I love it!
I added one teal plus-sign amongst the yellows for a fun pop! Then I added the black border, which I had to update the size of to make work for the next round. (If you’re interested, it’s 2-3/8″-wide.) And I ran out of the black border fabric, so I added another black fabric I liked!
Are you participating in this quilt along? I’m excited to continue exploring my creativity with this project! It’s been very freeing!
Thanks for joining me for “happy hour,”
