A Sew Hometown Finish

I’ve been waiting for a nice day to take pictures of this recent finish, but our spring started with cold weather and lots of rain. But now that I’m temporarily working from home, I could run out when we had a little sun to snap some pics!

I loved this fun block-of-the-month from Inspiring Stitches! It was such a great combination of blocks — houses, butterflies, birdhouses, trees, and more. I used only fabrics from my stash in a rainbow color palette, and it ended up being the most colorful spring quilt!

This quilt is on my couch right now — I used batting from The Warm Company for a very lightweight quilt and it’s perfect for this time of year! The colors are such a bright welcome every time I walk into the room. (Do you notice the pieced rainbow binding, too?)

I pieced the backing from my stash, too! I’m trying to use fabric I already own instead of buying fabric. Yes, it’s more work to piece backings and bindings, but it’s satisfying to find the perfect fabric and eliminate some of the piles of yardage I have!

I quilted the quilt on my domestic machine using aqua thread and a serpentine stitch. I love a bold thread color on rainbow quilts — it helps the quilting stand out. Plus, if you’re going to go big with color, you might as well go REALLY big!

Hope everyone is having a happy spring. And if you’re stuck inside for the quarantine, I hope you’re finding time to sew and finish some projects! Sewing is what’s keeping me sane right now, so expect more finishes from me soon!

Thanks for joining me for “happy hour”,

I’d love to connect on Facebook and Instagram! Let’s stay in touch!
